One killed, 15 injured in road accident

TOBA TEK SINGH: A passenger died and at least 15 others were injured when a speeding coaster van overturned in Mianchannu near Mohsin Wal locality on Lahore-Multan Road on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 said all passengers were workers in a factory in Lahore and were returning to their Chak 104/15L for Eid. The deceased was identified as Zeeshan Manzoor, 22, whose wedding was scheduled four days after Eid. All wounded were shifted to THQ hospital where doctors referred three of them to Multan Nishtar Hospital.

Also, in Faisalabad on Satiana Road near Khanuana bypass, a tractor trolley hit a motorcycle rickshaw and left rickshaw passenger Ali Abbas, 16, injured.

He was shifted to DHQ hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Also in Faisalabad, a worker died and two others were injured after a cargo lift fell down in Arzoo Textile Mills on Saturday night.

Rescue 1122 said chain of the lift broke when it was elevating to upper storey and as a result, three workers were injured. Of them, Rizwan of Bahawalnagar died while the wounded workers were shifted to Allied Hospital. One who was transported by Rescue 1122 ambulance was identified as Lal Din of Chak 75 JB while the other could not be identified as he was taken to hospital by a private car.

BODY: The body of Bindya Malik, 35, of Faisalabad’s Raza Town locality, was recovered by Nawan Lahore police from the Jhang branch canal on Saturday night.

Police said she had been slaughtered to death by someone. A murder case was registered against unidentified person(s).

MURDER: A farm worker, Azhar Abbas, was allegedly murdered by his employer, Ameer Sultan, in Jhang on Sunday. Abbas had gone to his home in Shorkot and was unwilling to continue working for Sultan, who claimed Abbas owed him money.

Sultan’s son, Ali Ahmad, lured Abbas into his car, strangled him to death, and then falsely told his parents that Abbas had died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

The police have taken Abbas’ body to THQ hospital for autopsy and are conducting raids to arrest both Ali Ahmad and his father, Ameer Sultan.

SITES: The Faisalabad district administration has notified 26 sites to collect hides of sacrificial animals on Eidul Azha for different religious and welfare organisations having permission from the deputy commissioner.

According to the notification issued by DC Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, banned organisations would not be allowed to collect the sacrificial animal hides, and legal action would be taken against violators.

SUICIDE: An unidentified man died by suicide at Pirmahal on Saturday night under a train. According to Rescue 1122, a 35-year-old man jumped in front of the running 122 Down Ravi express train bound for Shorkot Cantonment from Lahore when it was passing through the railway level crossing on Faisalabad-Multan Road.

CASE: Faisalabad’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Asadullah Siraj ordered the DSP Factory Area police to arrest Dijkot Station House Officer Shahzad Ahmad Bhatti after registering a case against him and produce him before his court for disobeying his order.

He had sent a court bailiff to raid the police station and recover two men wrongfully detained in the police lockup without any case against them, but the SHO used abusive language against the bailiff and refused to hand over the men.

ROBBERY: Robbers looted an animal trader and snatched Rs17.5 million in cash from him at Gojra on late Saturday night.

Complainant Nasir Iqbal of Chak 347 JB claimed in his FIR registered by Nawan Lahore police under section 392 of PPC that he sold 60 calves and cows in Faisalabad’s cattle market located near Aminpur bypass and was returning by pickup along with his two assistants.

When he left the motorway M-4 at Chiragh Abad interchange and was on Jhang Road near Chak 345 JB, two motorcycle-riding bandits intercepted him at gunpoint and snatched away the entire amount.
