HYDERABAD: Family seeks protection, alleges police harassment

HYDERABAD, March 20: A family of Latifabad’s unit-6 has demanded protection from what the family called police highhandedness. Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, family members Dr Ittefaq Hussain, Azmat Sultana, Najma Sultana and Ishtiaq Hussain said they were being harassed by the Latifabad police on the basis of what they called a false FIR lodged by a builder and a gutka dealer of the city.

They alleged that Yameen, builder, and Abdul Rasheed, gutka dealer, had got false papers prepared in respect of sale deed of their bungalow which carried their fake signatures and had then started harassing them.

They said when they informed the B-section police, SHO Salman Farooqui did not take action and, rather, pressured them to strike a deal with the two people.

They said that on March 7, Rasheed, Yamin along with several people and police personnel, trespassed into their bungalow and held them hostage, threatening them with dire consequences if they did not vacate the bungalow. They said the accused also fired in the air and harassed womenfolk.

They said they had approached the Hyderabad DPO and the Latifabad TPO but no one had paid heed to their plight. They said they had also filed an application with the regional police officer but to no avail.

They regretted that on the basis of the fake sale deed, the FIR had been lodged on the ground that they were not handing over the bungalow to Yameen and Rasheed.

They said they had submitted numerous applications to police authorities but had received no response from them. They said they still were being issued threats of serious consequences, including registration of false cases.

They claimed that police were calling them to the B-section police station to pressure them to decide the issue and accept whatever price they were offered by the two persons.

They regretted that no investigation had been conducted into the FIR lodged against them.
