JSMU to make AI part of curriculum

KARACHI: The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has approved a plan to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) part of the curriculum.

The decision was taken at the 34th meeting of the university’s academic council, which also approved the new Mphil and PhD programmes. It was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon.

According to a JSMU spokesperson, Artificial Intelligence (AI) would be integrated into the first year curriculum of the university.

The meeting accorded approvals to the postgraduate specification template for MPhil and PhD programmes at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in five disciplines, a PhD programme in pathology, changes to the MHPE (Master in Health Professionals Education) programme, reducing credit hours from 50 to 36 as per the Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines.

Other agenda items included the revision of the curriculum to comply with HEC Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 of IoHBM-JSMU, and updates to the Board of Studies at the Institute of Family Medicine and APPNA Institute of Public Health.

Revisions to the Quality Enhancement Cell policy manual and progress updates on the implementation of HEC feedback forms were approved.

The inclusion of Prof Dur Muhammad (In-charge of the Department of Pathology) to the Discipline committee alongside Prof Huma Ali (Principal of IPS, JSMU) was confirmed by the council.

The meeting was attended by Dr Azam Khan, deans, heads of departments, administrative departments, and directors including Dr Abdul Wahid Usmani, Prof Huma Shareef, Dr Rahat Naz and Dr Syed Moyn Ali.
