No syndicate, selection board till regular VCs

LAHORE: Punjab Governor and Chancellor Sardar Saleem Haider on Friday restrained acting vice chancellors of 25 public sector universities from holding syndicate and selection boards till the appointment of regular incumbents.

According to Higher Education Department (HED) notification available with Dawn, the governor/chancellor issued directions to 25 public sector universities where acting vice chancellors are working that no further syndicate/ senate meetings should be held till the appointment of regular vice-chancellors.

It further directed that the meetings could only be held to the extent of approval of the emergent agenda items in case of extreme necessity, excluding approval of the recommendations of the selection boards/academic councils and creation of academic departments/ posts recommended by the finance & planning committees of the respective universities.

It also includes that the acting/pro vice chancellors of the universities should not make any further long term policy/ fiscal decisions during the course of their current assignments. “No further meetings of the selection boards should be held, nor should the recommendations already made by these boards (which have already not been approved by the respective approval forums) be processed further,” states the notification.
