Pakistani cueists shine in Asian snooker

RIYADH: Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal stunned current world champion Ali Alobaidli from Qatar 4-1 in the Asian 6-red Championship on Friday during the ACBS Asian 15-Red Under-21 and 6-Red Men’s Snooker Championship in Riyadh.

Asjad, the national champion, showed his prowess, winning frames 21-29, 45-30, 41-32, 66-0(66) and 47-0. Awaisullah Munir, finalist in the ACBS Asian Championship final held in Doha in February, also had a convincing 43-09, 43-06, 29-15, 72-0(72) win over Kuwait’s Mekded Tagi.

Meanwhile, Ahsan Ramzan, the defending champion in the Under-21 category, received a walkover against Hussain Aqeel of Bahrain, while Mohammad Hasnain Akhtar beat Pongsatorn Seemuen of Thailand 55-24, 60-56, 57-48.
