Girl’s body recovered after 12 days

TAXILA: The body of a 13-year-old girl, who drowned on June 18 in Indus River in Bagh Neelab area in the limits of Attock police station, was recovered near Khushalgarh bridge on Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border on Sunday.

The girl was later buried besides her 17-year-old brother Shaheer who had also drowned with her but his body was recovered on the same day.

According to the family, police and Rescue 1122 sources, Khurram Shahzad, his son Shaheer and daughter, Warda, had gone into the water on June 18 during the Eid holidays. As they were bathing, Warda lost her balance and started to drown. On seeing her struggling, her brother tried to save her but he too started drowning. Seeing his children in distress, their father went to rescue them but failed. A local boatsman joined the rescue and saved Khurram and also retrieved the body of Shaheer, but that of Warda was not found.

On Sunday, the girl’s body was finally recovered and was buried in her native graveyard in Mirza village.
