Two seized trawlers set on fire in Pasni

GWADAR: Some armed men set fire to two fishing trawlers, parked along the coast of Pasni in Gwadar district, officials said.

The trawlers were seized by the Fisheries Department four years ago for alleged illegal fishing.

Pasni fisheries department assistant director Noorud Din Mohammad Hassani said unidentified men set the trawlers — Al-Makkah and Al-Safina — on fire on Saturday evening.

The security guards, present at the site, were overpowered by the attackers before they doused petrol on the trawlers and set them ablaze, he added.

According to Mr Hassani, both trawlers belonged to fishermen in Sindh and were in possession of the fisheries department after being seized in 2020.

The trawlers were parked in Pasni as the Supreme Court had declared them the fisheries department property.
