Senate panel reviews IPRs

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce raised concerns about the lengthy registration period of 14-18 months and the challenges lawyers face in accessing the system despite claims of digitalisation.

The committee chaired by its Chairperson Anusha Rahman reviewed the performance of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and other attached departments of the commerce ministry on Thursday.

The Director-General of the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (IPO) briefed the committee on updates on Pakistan’s accession to international IP treaties. The committee was informed about the online registration of 3,000 cases and a plan for complete digitalisation within two years.
