2,500 Mianwali villages to get electricity
MIANWALI, March 22: At least 2,500 villages will be electrified in the Mianwali district by June 2006. This was stated by Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool in an open kutchery at Canal Rest House here on Wednesday. The governor said that 140 kilometre long water courses had been brick-lined at a cost of Rs53 million in the district during the current year.
He praised the district government for allocating a huge amount for the education sector in the district.
On the public demand, the governor directed the Sui gas authority to establish its office here instead of the consumer centre for the redressal of grievances of consumers. He also announced that Sui gas would be provided to every corner of the district.
Later, the people presented their applications to the governor who issued directives on some plaints on the spot. Most of complaints were against police excesses, Wapda and Sui gas officials.
On the demand of UC nazims, the governor announced that sub-post offices at Shadia and Bani Afghana would be upgraded.
Earlier, District Nazim Haji Obaidullah Khan Shadikhel in his welcome address apprised the governor of problems being faced by the district.
