Four tourists die in road accident in Astore
GILGIT: Four tourists, including two women, were killed when their car fell into a river in Astore valley on Tuesday.
The bodies of the two women were recovered while search for the two men were underway.
According to Rescue 1122, the tourists were heading to Astore when they met with the accident near Harcho.
After being informed about the accident, Rescue 1122 reached the site and launched a search operation with the help of a boat.
Personnel of Rescue 1122 in Chilas were also engaged in different places along the river from Thalchi to Harcho. The bodies of the two women were recovered near the accident site and shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Gilgit.
Director General Rescue 1122 Shuja Alam said the search process will be launched again on Wednesday morning. The identities of the tourists have not been determined yet.
In a press release, the GB government advised travelers to adopt precautionary measures on mountainous roads. The advisory said travelers should always use mechanically fit vehicles.
Traffic incidents, particularly involving tourist vehicles, have increased across GB recently.
