KPT cargo handling jumps 23pc
KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) recorded a notable rise of 23.43 per cent in cargo handling operations in FY24.
The entire freight closed at 51.65 million tonnes in which dry cargo stood at 40.24m tonnes with 31.39pc growth while liquid bulk cargo was 11.41m tonnes with 1.7pc rise as compared to 41.85m tonnes total freight in which the share of dry cargo was 30.63m tonnes and liquid bulk cargo at 11.22m tonnes during FY23. The breakup shows that overall Export Cargo handling at KPT closed at 18.80mn tonnes with a stunning 47.16pc rise at the end of FY24 as compared to 12.78m tonnes during FY23.
Similarly, the total import cargo handling was 32.85m tonnes, up by 13pc from 29.07m tonnes during FY23.
Export dry cargo handled at KPT during FY24 closed at 17.66m tonnes with 49.12pc increase due to extraordinary clinker handling as compared to 11.84mn tonnes during FY23. The Export Liquid Bulk Cargo stood at 1.14m tonnes with 22.24pc increase due to the contribution of furnace oil and molasses, etc as compared to 0.93m tonnes during FY23.
