Suspect beaten to death after PPP worker shot dead in Korangi
KARACHI: A worker of the Pakistan Peoples Party was shot dead in the Korangi area, where enraged people overpowered one of the alleged killers and lynched him on Wednesday, police said.
They said that 30-year-old Noman Abbasi was gunned down near Dhobi Ghat within the remit of the Zaman Town police station by assailants riding on a motorcycle.
Wounded Noman tried to overpower one of the assailants who fell from the motorcycle and overpowered by area people who had gathered there after hearing shots.
They gave the suspected killer a severe beating and as a result, he died on the spot.
Korangi SSP Tauheed Rehman Memon told a press conference that Noman was a worker of the PPP and he was killed over some ‘personal enmity’.
He claimed that the killed suspect was identified as Faisal, alias Cheeta, and his accomplice, Sheeraz Razzaq, was also arrested.
The officer said that the held suspect had ‘confessed’ to have killed Noman over ‘personal enmity’.
Noman was the second worker of the PPP who was targeted in the same Korangi area.
SSP Memon said that the police had arrested Mohammed Naeem on charges of killing PPP’s councillor Amir Abbasi on July 1.
He said a rickshaw used for reconnaissance of the slain PPP councillor and a 9mm pistol used in the murder had been recovered from the custody of suspect Naeem.
