ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Turkiye International Simulation Exercise (Sim-Ex) was conducted online at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to enhance cooperation and preparedness between the countries during disasters.

This joint exercise, organised by the NDMA and Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), focused on preparing for and responding to floods and earthquakes.

According to a statement issued by the NDMA, Sim-Ex is a pioneering exercise aimed at bolstering collaboration between the two nations, enhancing their capabilities to manage and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters. Participants engaged in various scenarios, addressing challenges and strategies involved in dealing with severe floods and devastating earthquakes.

NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation during disasters. He emphasised the need for preparedness and a proactive disaster management approach, highlighting that such joint exercises were vital for effective response and building resilience.

Head of Department Response Plans and Exercise Yusuf Aysu at AFAD expressed gratitude to the NDMA for organising the simulation exercise.

He said the event provided valuable insights and strengthened the partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye in disaster management.

The NDMA declared the successful completion of the simulation exercise as a significant advancement in international collaboration between Pakistan and Turkiye, ensuring both countries were better equipped to handle future natural disasters.
