HYDERABAD: Free medical camp held

HYDERABAD, March 23: The National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry of the University of Sindh organized a one-day free medical Camp at the Manchhar Lake. The medical camp was held to provide treatment to people in the Manchhar Lake area suffering from skin allergy, stomach diseases, pain, rheumatism and other ailments.

Dr Imtiaz Arain, Dr Anoop Kumar and Dr Zeenat Shaikh of the Sindh Government Hospital treated about 700 patients.

The medical camp is a part of the ongoing research project – Effect of water pollution of the Manchhar Lake on its inhabits – of the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry.

The purpose of the project is to investigate the quality of water and aquatic life all round the year.

The blood, nails and hair samples of patients were also taken to examine the effect of toxic metals commonly found in the Manchhar water due to addition of polluted water from the Main Nara Valley Drain.

The results of the study will be highlighted so that preventive measures can be suggested by experts.
