Shifing of all intercity bus terminals to Superhighway planned

KARACHI: The city administration has decided to relocate all intercity bus terminals to the Superhighway Bus Terminal being set up by the private sector.

Officials said on Saturday that Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi had directed all deputy commissioner to submit their reports on illegal bus stands operating in their respective districts.

They said that the city administration was making all-out efforts to eliminate illegal intercity bus stands within the city and relocate them to the under-construction bus terminal at the Superhighway as they were causing traffic congestion in the metropolis.

The officials said that the commissioner along with Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema visited the bus terminal at the highway and held meeting with the representatives of the private company constructing the Superhighway Bust Terminal.

They private company informed the commissioner that the work on the expansion plan of the bus terminal had already started.

The officials said that the new bus terminal at the highway would streamline intercity bus operations, reduce traffic congestion and improve passenger facilities.

They said that the expanded terminal would provide a more organised and efficient hub for bus services, making it easier for passengers to travel outside the city.

The officials said that the commissioner reviewed the facilities and capacity of the terminal, which was established about seven years ago with government permission to help eliminate illegal bus stands within the city.

They said that the presence of intercity buses in the city had been causing traffic congestion and creating road safety issues, adding that the bust terminal was part of the provincial government’s efforts to address these problems.

The officials said that the bus terminal was currently being used by various bus companies.

They said that the expansion plan of the terminal was aimed at facilitating bus companies operating from different parts of the city, which would ultimately lead to the elimination of illegal bus stands within the city.

Additionally, the officials said, a shuttle service would be introduced to connect passengers from various areas of the city to the bus terminal.
