The Turkish Command ... said that the Turkish Forces had prevented a Greek landing at Paphos, the birthplace of [Cypriot] President Archbishop Makarios. Turkish sources said the Greek Force consisted of six supply vessels, loaded with munitions and other material, guarded by an unspecified number of warships.

[News agencies add from Larkana,] Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has appealed to the people of Pakistan to demonstrate their sympathy and support for Turkey in her valiant struggle to uphold justice and the sanctity of international agreements. … The Prime Minister said although Pakistan was facing a critical situation because of Indian and Afghan troop movements, “my Government cannot possibly allow itself to be passive or indifferent to Turkey’s need for fraternal support”.
