KARACHI: A new era in Radio Pakistan’s life will be ushered in on Aug 14 when its four new international broadcasting services are expected to be inaugurated on the new 50-K.W. short-wave transmitter. The Central Directorate of Radio Pakistan here is battling feverishly against a variety of odds to be able to “put up a really good show” despite shortage of specialised staff, time and requisite facilities.

The five international services directed to listeners in Iran, Burma, the Arab countries and Afghanistan, will be inaugurated, it is understood, by diplomatic representatives from the respective countries in Pakistan. …

To organise and supervise the various foreign language broadcasts, Radio Pakistan is stated to have been able to obtain the services of a number of people from the countries concerned who are expected to be on their way to Karachi. Arrangements to procure a sufficient number of musical records and similar material from the various countries to entertain listeners there from Karachi have been made. Each of the foreign language programmes is expected to last for 45 minutes daily. These programmes will generally contain music, talks and features designed to introduce the young Pakistan nation to the world outside.
