RAWALPINDI: Police have arrested a man after he crashed his car into Gate 5 of Central Jail Adiala on Monday night and attempted to enter the premises.

Security officials overpowered the man and later registered a case against him.

Gate 5 is used by judges, lawyers, police, PTI leaders and relatives of PTI founder Imran Khan, who is in jail. Police Sub-Inspector Aftab Ahmed lodged an FIR with the Saddar Berooni police stating that he and his subordinates were on security duty at the gate whereas Elite Force personnel were outside the jail when a black car appeared from Gate 1 and moved towards Gate 5.

The driver was signaled to stop for checking by the security staff, but he accelerated the speed and attempted to hit and kill the officials.

The FIR said constable Fahad Ali, who was standing alongside, fell on the ground after being hit by the car. The driver rammed the vehicle into the barrier and then hit the gate causing damage to it. After being hit, the gate also got opened and the suspect tried to enter the jail. However, security personnel surrounded and detained him.

Later, the driver was identified as Mubashir Hussain, a resident of Faisalabad.
