KASUR: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) disconnected the power supply of Pattoki Railway Station and the adjacent railway residential colony over non-payment of utility bills amounting to approximately Rs2.7 million on Wednesday.

Lesco sources said notices had been issued to the railway authority to clear the pending dues, but no action was taken.

Railway officials experienced difficulties in performing their duties, including the issuance of tickets, while passengers endured hot and humid weather and a shortage of water at the railway station.

Residents of the Railway Colony expressed their concern over the power supply suspension, calling it cruel to children, women, the elderly and the sick residents of the colony. They said they had been paying their utility bills regularly and there was no justification for disconnecting the power supply.

KILN: A team from the Chunian tehsil administration and the Environment Department partially demolished seven brick kiln units and 10 plant pot-making units on Wednesday.

This action took place on Chunian-Haiderabad Road, including villages Veeram and Chak 2, due to their contribution to environmental pollution.

The action was taken for violating the zigzag policy at kilns and the use of harmful materials as fuel at the plant pot-making units.

The administration stated in a press release that the owners of these units were issued warnings about two months ago, but no compliance was achieved, forcing the administration to take strict action.

Earlier, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb visited Kasur on Monday and received a briefing from the administration regarding violators of zigzag technology at kilns.

MANHOLE: An elderly man sustained serious injuries after falling into an open manhole at Kot Usman Khan main bazaar on Wednesday.

Hanif, 70, of Kot Aligar, fell into the manhole outside the gate of Kot Usman Khan and suffered injuries. Passersby, however, rescued him and shifted him to the hospital for medical aid.

Locals stated that municipal committee officials had been ignoring their requests to cover the manhole for the last few weeks.

DIES: A train passenger died after his head struck a pole on Wednesday near village Sahjowal in the limits of Pattoki Police Station.

According to eyewitnesses, Awais, 22, of Chunian, was peering outside the compartment window when his head struck a pole.

Railway police handed over the body to the bereaved family after completing legal formalities.
