Ban on arms licences lifted

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday lifted the ban imposed on the issuance of arms licences in the province.

A notification issued here said: “With the approval of Minister Home, Law, Parliamentary Affairs & Criminal Prosecution, Sindh, the ban on the issuance of arms licences at deputy commissioner offices in the province is hereby lifted with effect from August 1 as per existing quota/ceiling as mentioned in Rule 4.1 of Sindh Arms Rule, 2018.”

According to Rule 4.1, the chief minister and home minister have no limit of the number of arms licences in a calendar month while the home secretary has monthly quota of 200 licences.

All the deputy commissioners in Karachi have quota of 50 each per month while the deputy commissioners of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad have quota of 100 each per month.

The ban was imposed by former caretaker chief minister Maqbool Baqar.
