PSMA wants to export more sugar
LAHORE: The Punjab chapter of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association has sought official permission to export more sugar to deal with `piling up surplus’ stocks of the sweetener.
In a statement issued on Sunday, a spokesperson for the PSMA said the country was holding a stock of 1.2 million tonnes of sugar and it was likely to go up to 1.5mt in the new season set to start by the year-end. He said the government should consider exporting the surplus sugar and earn around $1.0bn foreign exchange for the country.
