Widespread rain lashes several Sindh districts

MITHI: Light to moderate rain hit Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Hyderabad districts and their adjoining areas on Monday, bringing an end to hot and humid conditions that had persisted the areas since the last week’s mostly patchy rain.

In Mirpurkhas, it rained lightly in the city and its adjoining towns reducing the temperature and making the weather pleasant. People took a sigh of relief after severe heat that had persisted for over a week.

Power supply went off as the first drop of rain landed in the city. The rainfall continued intermittently in Mirwah Gor­chani, Digri, Jhuddo, Tando Jan Mohammad, Sindhri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Hingorno, Phuladdiyyon, Jhilori and Khaan.

In Hyderabad, it started drizzling at 11:30am and continued for some time and then again it rained lightly in the evening. The weather remained cloudy throughout the day. Earlier, on July 18-19 it had rained for half an hour at midnight.

Electricity supply was suspended in several parts of the city with the start of the drizzle. A blast was reported in a pole-mounted transformer in Saddar, Cantonment area and since then power supply had not been restored by Hesco.

It rained moderately in Nawabshah, Jam Sahab, 60-Miles and Daur towns of Shaheed Benazirabad district as well as Tando Adam, Khipro, Peerumal, Shahdadpur, Sanghar and Shahpur Chakar of Sanghar district.

The electricity supply went off as soon as the rain started. No loss of life was reported from any part of the district.
