CM concerned over sky-high electricity bills

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday said the ever-increasing electricity tariff had created unrest among people because of their inability to afford.

He said it was the responsibility of the government to steer the masses out of that dilemma.

“The energy sector falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government and they can set the tariff, but as a provincial government, we can assist poor people by offering them solar panels or a minimum of 100 units for free as per directive of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he said.

The CM said this while presiding over a meeting held to firm up proposals for solarisation of the off-grid and on-grid low-income families.

Present on the occasion were Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Bux Khan Mahar, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Energy Secretary Musadiq Khan.
