Waqar starts job of adviser to PCB chief

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis began his job as the Adviser to Chairman on Cricket Affairs on Wednesday on temporary basis, as his official post will be formally advertised soon according to the rules and regulations.

“Waqar came to the office and started his work, meeting with different officials concerned. As the home Test series against Bangladesh is scheduled to begin on Aug 21, a detailed meeting with [red-ball] head coach Jason Gillespie will be held in Islamabad, where the former Australian Test pacer will arrive on Aug 4.

“All the decisions on Pakistan’s forthcoming home series against Bangladesh and England will be taken in this meeting,” a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman said.

Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that fast bowling great Waqar was the front-runner for the newly-introduced position of the Adviser to Chairman on Cricket Affairs in the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB regime.

As no advertisement is required for hiring an adviser, Waqar started the job. However, an advertisement will be given soon so that he maybe given an officer’s post in the Board.
