Draft of climate change policy reviewed

LAHORE: The draft of the Climate Change Action Plan and the Punjab Climate Change Policy were reviewed at a meeting here on Wednesday.

Presiding over the meeting, senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the role of stakeholders would be laid down in the Climate Change Action Plan and the Punjab Climate Change Policy as various projects relating to green development and green energy were going on in the province.

She hoped the plan and policy would help cope up with the prevailing smog hazards, high temperatures and floods owing to adverse climate change effects.

She said the government was introducing development projects, including solarisation schemes, worth Rs100bn for the improvement of environment, and small dams were being launched in the rain-fed areas and flood zones.

She said preparation of a famine and heat-wave management plan and its implementation would be completed in a span of two years; 100,000 healthcare professionals would be imparted training to cope up with the health issues on account of adverse climate change effects; and the task of regulating groundwater would be carried out.
