Govt to support shrimp farming
LAHORE: The Punjab government said on Thursday that the country’s one of the biggest shrimp farm projects will be launched this year. More than 1,000 tonnes of ‘shrimp farming’ will be undertaken on 1,000 acres of land for the first time in Punjab.
The Punjab government will provide subsidies, land and other necessary facilities for the project.
On the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a decision has been made to formally launch a research project for the fisheries and shrimp farming, says a statement. The Fisheries Farms Associations has praised the initiative.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb met a delegation of the Fisheries Farms Associations on Thursday and assured them of cooperation of the Punjab government for launching the shrimp farm project. The meeting agreed to promote mutual collaboration with all relevant stakeholders for the launch of the project.
Ms Aurangzeb said the private sector would be provided with all possible assistance for launching the project. “It will prove to be a game-changer for the farmers of Punjab,” she added.
