Sialkot consumer court fines UAE airline on poor service

GUJRAT: A consumer court in Sialkot has imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on a UAE-based international airline on charges of poor services to a client.

A woman passenger of Sialkot Fatima Saba had alleged in her petition filed with the district consumer court that she had booked a ticket for Istanbul (Turkiye) from Faisalabad and the flight was scheduled to take off on April 17, 2024.

However when she reached the airport, she came to know that the flight had been cancelled but the airline neither gave her prior notice about the cancellation nor the flight was rescheduled whereas her ticket was also not refunded.

The petitioner also produced all the necessary documentary evidence of her claim and court heard the petition in accordance with the law.

Consumer court presiding officer Gulzar Ahmed Khalid announced the decision in the case and ordered a fine of Rs100,000 on the airline.

Moreover, the court verdict said the airline was also bound to refund the sum of Rs1,67,305 to the consumer that were paid by her to purchase the ticket as well as the airline would have to pay Rs50,000 fee of the lawyer and Rs15,000 amount of miscellaneous expenditures to the consumer.
