UK calls for ‘UN-led investigation’ in Bangladesh

LONDON: The British government called on Bangladesh’s transitional authorities to “restore calm” and to agree to a “UN-led investigation” into the deadly unrest that led to Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.

After the “unprecedented levels of violence and tragic loss of life” all sides “now need to work together to end the violence, restore calm, de-escalate the situation”, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in a statement. “The people of Bangladesh deserve a full and independent UN-led investigation into the events of the past few weeks.”
