HYDERABAD: STPP calls for parity among provinces

HYDERABAD, March 27: Eleven resolutions were adopted at a gathering to observe the motherland day by the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party on Sunday. A resolution called for elections for a new constituent assembly to draft a parity-based new constitution for provinces.

It also called for provincial autonomy and sovereignty on the basis of the 1940 resolution because Pakistan was a multi-nations state.

The resolution said that on the basis of LFO and 17th constitutional amendment, presidential form of government had been enforced in the country which had led to constitutional and political crisis.

Another resolution considered water as a matter of life and death for Sindh.

It described the Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal as projects for destruction of Sindh.

The resolution called for shelving of water projects over the Indus River including Kalabagh, Akhori and Munda.

The resolution demanded that military operation in Balochistan should be ended and all security forces should be withdrawn.

It said that cases against Baloch leaders should be withdrawn and Gawadar port project and army cantonments in the area should be abandoned.

The resolution said that restoration of Khokhropar-Munabo rail link was part of a conspiracy aimed at converting Sindhis into a minority by bring more outsiders from India.

It said that Sindh was deprived of its resources and the MQM was occupying all powers, therefore, the restoration of rail link was not in the interest of Sindh.

It demanded sealing of the rail route and people of Tharparkar and Rajasthan should be given travel permits to meet their dear ones as they used to before any rail link.

Through another resolution, the meeting condemned demolition of Sindhi villages and demanded regularization of all villages in Sindh.

It condemned bill adopted by the Sindh Assembly regarding jobs in multi-national companies and said that Sindhi youths should be given jobs in all the multi-national companies and institutions in Karachi.

The meeting demanded that those who had settled after 1954 should be expelled from Sindh and right to vote and buy properties in Sindh should not be given to residents of other provinces and they should be given work permits.

The meeting called for compulsory education of Sindhi language right form primary schools to the university level, it should be declared as official language of Sindh and 1972 language bill should be implemented in letter and spirit.

The meeting rejected population-based NFC award announced by General Pervez Musharraf and demanded that it should be made revenue, poverty and needs oriented.

The meeting demanded that the government should take measures for controlling ever increase price hike.
