Man throws ‘unwanted’ daughter into canal in Gujrat
GUJRAT: In a shocking incident of gender-based hate crime, a man allegedly threw his infant daughter into a canal on Thursday for not having a boy.
The incident happened at village Chak Fateh Shah of Dinga Police.
Rescue 1122 team launched a search for the body of the three-month-old girl in the Upper Jhelum Canal.
Initial investigation said Ali Ahmed Raza Sabri was not happy after he could not have a baby boy with his wife as his daughter was born three months ago. He used to quarrel with his wife.
On Thursday again, he had a quarrel with his wife over the same matter, snatched the baby girl from his wife and threw her into the canal near his house.
Police and Rescue 1122 officials were informed about the incident. A team of divers reached the spot and launched a search for the body.
A spokesman for Gujrat Police said District Police Officer Mustanser Atta Bajwa had taken immediate notice of the incident and directed Dinga Station House Officer Inspector Mujahid Abbas to take strict action against the suspect. Police arrested the suspect after registration of a case against him.
Robberies
A man was robbed by unidentified armed men on the bypass road.
The armed suspects snatched Rs0.9m cash from Saifullah, a resident of Rehman Shaheed Road, and fled.
In another incident, a rooster worth Rs10,000 was stolen from the house of Ameer Hamza in the Mogowal police precincts. Police said it had registered the cases.
