UNIVERSITY FEE

UNIVERSITY FEE: Due to hike in university fee, students from humble backgrounds have been struggling to pay their semester dues. The unreasonably high tuition fee deprives many students of a chance to get admission to universities, and forces others to quit their studies midway. If the authorities do not take action against this fee structure, a time will come when youngsters would be left behind in their educational journey simply due to poverty. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) should rationalise the fee structure of universities so that the students may continue their respective academic journey without facing hurdles.

UNREPAIRED BRIDGE: The bridge connecting Hub and Karachi that was rendered unusable during the heavy rains and resulting floods of August 2022 has remained unrepaired two years later. The construction work had started after a long delay, but then it was stopped by the authorities for reasons that are only known to them. A temporary pathway was carved out by the local authorities to keep the wheels moving to some extent, but the recent spell of rain has destroyed that pathway as well. The higher auth- orities should look into the matter and have the issue resolved without any delay.

BIASED LEGISLATION: Since Pakistan has been a frontline state in the war against terrorism, making significant sacrifices in the global war on terror, the United States-India Defence Cooperation Act moved by Senator Marco Rubio, which aims at stopping security assistance to Pakistan, is based on unfounded grounds. The proposed legislation disregards these efforts as well as the complex security dynamics of the region. Pakistan must reject any accusation of being a sponsor of terrorism against India, and call this bill a biased attempt to undermine regional stability. Pakistan should demand that the US adopt a balanced approach aimed at promoting peace and cooperation rather than division in the region.
