Shangla resident gets 25 years in jail for rape

SHANGLA: A Shangla court has convicted a man of rape and awarded him 25 years imprisonment and a Rs200,000 fine.

The court also slapped a jail term of one year on his father for giving pills to the girl in an attempt to abort her pregnancy.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Shangla Mohammad Khan Yousafzai convicted Dost Mohammad under section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code, awarding him 25 years imprisonment and a Rs200,000 fine. The verdict was announced on Thursday after a three-year trial in the case.

The case was instituted at the Aloch police station on May 21 2021 on the complaint of the victim, who had told the police that she was raped by her relative, Dost Mohammad. She stated that she had got pregnant and later gave birth to a baby.

After lodging an FIR and submitting a challan to the court, the prosecution team submitted evidence of DNA and other material on that ground, and the court convicted the accused and his father, Murad Jan.

The convict was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment under section 376 of PPC and to another two years imprisonment under section 506 of PPC.

Similarly, Murad Jan, the convict’s father, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment under section 338-A read with 511 of PPC.
