Third inquiry instituted in ‘neglected’ patient’s death case

HYDERABAD: A third inquiry has been instituted to ascertain facts about the death of a helpless patient in the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) on July 29.

The patient, Ayub Qureshi, 35, a mason, died of profuse bleeding about four hours after he was taken to the hospital. He had got a piece of iron rod pierced through the upper right side of his back after having fallen off a wall while working at a construction site in Paretabad locality.

The third inquiry committee has been constituted by the health secretary while the two committees formed earlier by DC Zain Ul Abiden and Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences are already holding their respective probes.

The fresh committee is supposed to find out if the patient was provided timely treatment; or in case of delay, fix responsibility on the doctors / staff found to have averted their duties causing the demise.
