Taekwondo gold medalists get warm welcome

ABBOTTABAD: Three junior athletes, who bagged three gold and two bronze medals in the 17th Heroes Taekwondo International Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand, received a rousing welcome upon reaching here.

Mohammad Shiraz, secretary general of Hazara Taekwondo Association, said the three national heroes included Maryam Noor, 6, who won a gold medal, and Zainab Wasim, 8, and her brother, Moosa Wasim, 11, who won two gold and two bronze medals each.

Players from 30 countries participated in the taekwondo championship, which was held at Assumption University, Bangkok, from August 10 to 12.

Hazara commissioner Zaheerul Islam, former director general sports Tariq Mehmood, international taekwondo referee Shiraz along with a large number of players and relatives received the national heroes upon reaching Abbottabad.
