Punjab launches ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ scheme
LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday launched “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” (own roof, own home) programme for some districts of the province in first phase.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the portal (acag.punjab.gov.pk), where citizens can apply online for the programme. Citizens can call 0800-09100 to seek information about it.
Under the programme, a sum of Rs1.5 million loan will be given to the land owners of one to five marlas in the urban areas and from one to 10 marlas in rural areas. The debt will have to be paid within seven years in soft installments.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said: “Punjab is taking lead in the sector. The entire government machinery is working vigorously. I am working continuously for 16 hours per day. The person who waited the most about Apni Chhat…Apna Ghar programme is Nawaz Sharif who distributed land to the small peasants during his tenure which left a very positive impact on the people of Sindh. Nawaz Sharif often says that if you give someone own roof then it is the best service to the mankind,” she said and added not a single penny would have to be paid during first three months of taking loan.
Those getting loan will have to pay a maximum installment of Rs14,000. “No interest will be charged on getting a loan, neither there will be any hidden charges nor any service charges.”
“We are providing a mega relief to the people of Punjab in their electricity bills amounting to Rs45 billion. The Punjab government is going to launch one of the biggest solar panels project in province’s history so that paying hefty utility bills issue does not arise next year. “I have directed to construct all the houses according to quality of model houses. If you want a loan, we are providing it and you can also build a house yourself by taking loan. If you have started building a house and has built some portion of it, you should contact us and we will provide you with an amount for the remaining construction. We are launching the Apni Chhat…Apna Ghar programme in five to six districts which will subsequently be extended to other districts across Punjab,” she said.
Addressing another ceremony, CM Maryam said as the people of Punjab were getting Rs14 per unit relief on electricity bills for two months she would be pleased more if people of Sindh also get relief. “We should try to emulate Sindh in good things, and Sindh should also replicate the many good things we are doing for public welfare,” she said and added she had a relationship of respect with Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah. ”Change is not possible overnight but we should try our best,” she added.
