Boat clinic goes missing in Indus tides in Punjab

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A boat clinic serving patients in the Sonmiani, Kot Karam Khan and Bangla Icha area along the river Indus since 2020 is missing due to strong water currents.

Operated by Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), the clinic has been non-functional for the past two months due to high tides, says media head of IHHN Fawad Bin Rasheed in a statement.

“At approximately 3:30am on Thursday, the anchor of our boat clinic broke due to unexpected surge in floodwaters, causing the vessel to drift towards the deeper parts of the Indus River and eventually towards Guddu Barrage. At around 4:20am, the boat collided with gate 26 of Guddu Barrage.”

He said efforts were underway to rescue the vessel. “The IHHN will keep the public informed as more information becomes available,” he said.
