NA speaker issues production order for PTI lawmaker
KARACHI: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday issued a production order for PTI MNA Haji Imtiaz Ahmad Chaudhry after his party moved a privilege against several Punjab police officials, Dawn.com reported.
According to the motion moved by the PTI, Mr Chaudhry was arrested by law enforcement authorities without obtaining prior approval from the speaker on July 24.
This is the second production order for MNA Chaudhry issued by the speaker after an earlier order was reverted later.
MNA in ACE custody in connection with a graft case
The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) director general has been directed to present the PTI MNA in the National Assembly on Aug 26 at 5pm.
“Honourable speaker considers [the] presence of Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Chaudhry … during the said session of the National Assembly necessary,” the order said.
The speaker directed the ACE to hand over Mr Chaudhry to the Parliament House’s sergeant-at-arms before each NA sitting. The ACE will get custody after each sitting.
Mr Chadhry is in ACE custody in connection with a graft case. He has been accused of receiving Rs2 million as a commission in a development scheme.
He was elected as an independent candidate (backed by the PTI) in the Feb 8 polls. Earlier, he had been elected as an MNA for the first time in the 2018 elections on the PTI ticket.
