Father-in-law arrested for honour killing of two women, boy

GUJRAT: The police registered a case of honour killing against a man accused of murdering his two daughters-in-law, and a minor son of his one of the deceased woman on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday at 11am in Dhakki Mohallah, but there was a delay in the post-mortem due to the late issuance of relevant documents by the police.

The post-mortem of Ayesha Bibi and Aansa Bibi was held after 22 hours of the incident at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital. The bodies were subsequently handed over to the heirs after the autopsy was completed on Sunday.

The City A-Division police registered the first information report (FIR) under sections 302 (murder), 311 (honour killing) and 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Jameel Araen, the father-in-law of the deceased women. The FIR was filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rashida Parveen, located just a few yards from the crime scene.

According to the FIR, Jameel allegedly used an iron rod to kill his daughters-in-law and injure seven-year-old Rizwan, son of Ayesha from a previous marriage, who later died at a hospital in Lahore. The police arrested Jameel and recovered the iron rod used in the attack.

ASI Parveen said that Muhammad Afzal Araen, an uncle of the deceased women, informed her that they originally hailed from Layyah district and had been married in Gujrat. Ayesha had been married twice before settling with Hamza Jameel in Gujrat. Her seven-year-old son, Rizwan, was from her first husband, Muhammad Altaf.

However, another man, Muhammad Asif Araen, from Layyah, still claimed to be Ayesha’s husband, which often led to quarrels between Jameel and his son, Hamza, over the marriage.

According to the FIR, Jameel became infuriated with his daughters-in-law due to Ayesha’s previous marriages and attacked them, along with her son Rizwan.

A team from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. Police have stated that further investigations are underway.

MAN KILL SISTER: A young woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother over an “honour-related issue” in Aziz Park locality of Jalalpur Jattan town.

As per police sources, Manazar Ali Ranjha of Kot Ranjha village, arrived at his mother’s house in the city area, along with a woman and a man.

The suspect, pushed his mother out of a room, where his sister Noshaba was also present.

He then shot his sister in the head with a pistol. She died on the spot. The suspect and the two others accompanying him fled the scene.

On being informed of the incident, a police team reached the spot and collected evidence.

The body was shifted to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH), where doctors conducted autopsy and handed it over to the victim’s family.

Police have registered a case against the two nominated suspects, Manazar and a woman Nusrat Bibi and an unidentified man, under sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the report of Rehana Kausar, the mother of the victim.

The complainant told the police that her slain daughter had moved to Darul Amaan (shelter for women) in Gujrat over some issue some time ago, and after her return she started living with her. She said her son harboured a grudge against her daughter for moving to Darul Amaan.

The police sources say that the young woman was murdered over an honour-related issue but the complainant did not mention this in the FIR.
