Sindh’s governor calls for empowered LG system to resolve Karachi issues
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has advocated for a strong and empowered local government system, calling it essential for resolving myriad problems of the provincial metropolis.
Taking to the media after a meeting with industrialists belonging to the Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry here on Tuesday, he stressed that Karachi, as the economic hub of the country, required urgent attention to its issues, both present and future.
He said that he was committed to addressing Karachi’s challenges and would continue to raise his voice for the city at every forum.
He emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance trade and suggested transforming friendships with other countries into trade partnerships.
Industrialists highlight infrastructure, water, power and gas issues in F. B Industrial Area
He said that the doors of the Governor House were always open for both the public and the business community.
He assured the industrialists that the government was committed to addressing their issues on a priority basis to boost industrial activity and trade. He said the benefits of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) would soon be visible.
Earlier, he discussed the concerns of the industrialists, who highlighted the urgent need to resolve issues related to infrastructure, water, gas, and electricity in the industrial area, according to a press release issued from Governor House.
He assured them that he would take up these matters with the relevant authorities to find prompt solutions.
He also expressed his willingness to facilitate a direct dialogue between industrialists, traders and the prime minister.
He urged all parties to focus on resolving issues rather than blaming each other.
Ceremony to honour Arshad Nadeem
A special ceremony was held at the Governor House in honour of Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem.
According to a Governor House press release, the event was attended by consuls general from various countries, including China, Turkey, Iran, Qatar, and Bangladesh. The ceremony also saw the participation of the victorious Under-15 football team.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor emphasized his commitment to providing all possible support and assistance to sports activities across the province.
He also mentioned that Arshad Nadeem and his coach would play an active role in supporting these efforts.
He announced that a marathon would be held in Karachi in January.
In recognition of the Under-15 football team’s achievement, the governor announced a reward of Rs one million, a motorcycle for each player, and an additional Rs100,000 for each member of the team.
He expressed his hope that the team would continue to bring honour to the country through their dedication and hard work.
At the governor’s request, Arshad Nadeem demonstrated his javelin throw skills, which delighted the attendees.
