LAHORE: The Punjab University College of Art and Design (CAD) celebrated its 84th anniversary on Wednesday with an art exhibition at the Anna Molka Art Gallery and Grand Hall.

The exhibition, curated by CAD Principal Prof Dr Samina Nasim, was inaugurated by Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood and will remain open to the public until September 10, 2024.

Founded on Aug 14, 1940, the college has been a cornerstone of art education in the region, nurturing countless artists who have made significant contributions to the art world. This exhibition serves as a tribute to the college’s rich legacy, showcasing the artistic talents of both current and former faculty members. The event highlights the institution’s longstanding commitment to excellence in art education.

The exhibition features a diverse range of artworks, including traditional and contemporary painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, fiber arts, documentary film and digital art. The works on display offer a unique opportunity to witness the evolution of artistic styles and techniques over the past 84 years, bringing together generations of artists under one roof.

Prof Nasim said, “This art show is a vibrant celebration of creativity and artistic excellence. The faculty members of the college have played a pivotal role in nurturing the artistic talents of our students, and this exhibition is a testament to their dedication.”

Prof Mehmood said the faculty art show is a must-visit event for art enthusiasts, students, and anyone interested in exploring the creative genius of the Faculty of Art and Design. Art has the ability to unite, inspire, and transform us. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the display of artworks reflecting the Pakistan Movement, offering visitors a historical perspective through the lens of art. The exhibition not only showcases individual artistic expressions but also celebrates the collective contribution of the college’s faculty and alumni to the field of art.
