100 villages inundated in medium flood at Dadu-Moro bridge

DADU: One hundred villages were inundated in Dadu, Sehwan and Manjhand talukas in Katcho area along the River Indus when a medium flood passed from Dadu-Moro bridge.

Throughout the day, all the districts had been receiving light to moderate rain.

In Dadu district, 50 villages of Moundar, KT Jatoi, Jhaloo, Purano Deero and Amniani; in Sehwan taluka 40 and in Jamshoro district 10 villages came under water.

Irrigation officials declared an emergency and started patrolling along the LS embankment at Dadu and Sehwan. Dadu MPA Pir Mujeebul Haq visited the site near Dadu and directed Assistant Commissioner Shahnawaz Meerani to arrange boats for shifting the villagers of Katcho area to safe places.

Mazhar Solangi at the irrigation base, Dadu Shahbaz division, said the water level has risen at Dadu-Moro bridge to 127.8 feet RL and 109.8 feet RL at Amri bridge, and 350,000 cusecs water was passing in River Indus.

Mirpurkhas received moderate intermittent rainfall along with other towns of the district, inundating main roads, streets and low-lying areas.

The same situation confronted the people in Digri, Jhuddo, Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Jhilori, Hingorno, Samaro, Phuladdyyon, Khaan etc.

In Umerkot. heavy rain with strong winds continued for 18 hours across the district, inundating low-lying areas, standing crops and thatched houses.

The control room established to help people was also inundated and its staff escaped. Scores of thatched houses collapsed, people were under open sky in Samaro, Kunri, Pithoro and Umerkot talukas. No arrangements were made to shift them to safer places.

In Hyderabad, intermittent rainfall continued in the city on the third consecutive day on Wednesday since Monday.

Nawabshah, Sanghar and Naushahro Feroze districts continued to receive moderate to heavy rains.

Nawabshah, Jam Sahab, Daur, Bandhi, Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed and other towns received moderate rains.
