One-window centre issues driving licences to bike riders
RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police has started issuing driving licences to motorcyclists through a one-window centre.
From now onwards, the bike drivers will no longer need to wait an additional 42 days to get a permanent driving licence.
The move came about after the additional inspector general of police traffic Punjab issued a directive to launch a campaign against motorcycle riders who were driving without licences and to introduce the one-window operation.
Prior to the introduction of the one-window operation, applicants for a driving licence had to wait for 42 days from the time they received their learning permit before becoming eligible for a permanent licence.
Despite being Sunday, a large number of motorcyclists thronged the City Traffic Police Headquarters’ licensing branch to avail of the facility.
A spokesman for the traffic police said that a separate facilitation desk was also established for driving licence seekers.
“Bring your CNIC with you and get the motorcycle driving licence the same day,” said Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima.
A large number of people have been driving motorcycles without a driving licence and even ignoring wearing helmets.
