PHA starts improving greenbelts

RAWALPINDI: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has started work to improve greenbelts besides planting saplings to make the city green.

The PHA said it planted saplings on greenbelts along various roads under the monsoon plantation drive to beautify the city and meet the plantation targets set for 2024.

PHA Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha said the new plantation on greenbelts on main avenues will not only enhance the beauty of the city but will also be helpful in accomplishing the set goals of plantation in Punjab.

He said the PHA planted hundreds of saplings on greenbelts adjacent to metro stations on Murree Road and Rawal Road and on highways. He said in the monsoon plantation drive, saplings were also planted in suburbs of the city. He said staff of the PHA and public had also engaged in the plantation drive.

Moreover, students of schools, colleges and universities have also been made part of the planting campaign.

He said PHA was also distributing free saplings to encourage people to take part in the plantation drive.

Mr Ranjha said that students of Rawalpindi Medical University and various schools and colleges planted saplings in Liaquat Bagh and Quaid-i-Azam Park. Engaging students in the plantation drive proved successful, adding people visited green points to collect saplings to plant them in their homes.
