Man, woman die as rival groups trade fire near Khairpur
SUKKUR: A fierce armed clash between two groups of Mohal community members left a man and a woman dead in the riverine area adjacent to Khairpur district on Sunday. Two other persons also suffered bullet wounds.
Local residents and police said that the two groups had been embroiled in an old enmity for quite some time and on Sunday, armed men from both side first quarrelled over their dispute and then took up arms. As the clash intensified, they took up positions in their respective turfs and traded fire.
Police entered the troubled area during a lull and found Sahiba Khatoon and Rabail Mohal lying dead on ground. They transported the bodies to a nearby government hospital for a postmortem examination.
A strong contingent of police surrounded the area to prevent a flare-up.
A late evening report from the area suggested that sound of gunfire was being heard intermittently. The police, however, said that the situation was brought under control.
