Policewoman suspended for posting TikTok video while on duty

KARACHI: A policewoman was suspended for posting a TikTok video while on duty and revealing her team’s location, officials said on Tuesday.

Constable Maria Gill, posted at the Gizri police station, was suspended with immediate effect “due to improper and irresponsible behaviour towards performance of official duties at place of deployment, leading to negligence and dereliction of duty,” said an order issued by DIG-South Syed Asad Raza.

In the video, she could be heard saying: “Hello guys, Assalam-o-Alaikum. Today, I am posted for duty at the Mai Kolachi Road outside Bahria College. As you can see, there’s a heavy police presence here,” she says while pointing towards four other police seated at a bus stop. One of them could be seen waving at the camera as Constable Gill captured them in the video.

She then gestured to her motorcycle parked next to her. “Whoever wants to meet me, you can come here and meet me. I am posted on duty here today,” she said while saying goodbye.

The DIG said that Constable Gill would undergo a counselling session. “Police is a professional organisation and no one can be allowed to engage in such irresponsible acts,” he said.

Meanwhile, another policeman was suspended for making a TikTok video.

The police said that Constable Zeeshan shot the video in 2022 and uploaded it to TikTok in 2023.

“No police constable will be allowed to play with or use weapons in this way. Zero tolerance policy will be adopted against any officer or constable who commits such act and strict departmental action will be taken against him.
