Curfew in Mirali after clashes

MIRAMSHAH, March 30: Authorities imposed curfew in Mirali town in the North Waziristan Agency on Thursday after overnight clashes between security forces and militants.

Officials and residents told Dawn that two paramilitary soldiers were injured in a militant attack on a picket and a woman and a boy were killed and nine people injured in a retaliatory action by troops.

Troops retaliated and pounded suspected locations with artillery fire.

A resident in Hurmaz village said that a shell hit the residence of Mohammad Irfan, killing a woman and wounding seven women and children.

In Mosaki village, a shell landed on the house of Buhader Khan and killed a boy, Akbar Azam.

Sources said that several residential compounds and shops were targeted in Mirali bazaar. Militants also fired rockets on troops.
