Police kill two suspected robbers in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter in North Karachi on Wednesday.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that the encounter took place between street criminals and police near Sabri Chowk in Sector-11-B.

He said that the police challenged the robbers who opened fire on law enforcers and tried to flee. In an exchange of gunfire, one suspect was killed on the spot while another suffered bullet wounds.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

The dead were identified as Khadim Hussain and Sajid Ali.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols, four cell phones, cash and a motorcycle from their custody.

The police said that both the killed suspects had past criminal record.

The SSP said that during checking of their criminal record and biometric, it was transpired that Khadim was earlier arrested twice as Saiful, alias Talab Husain, by the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police in 2016.

Similarly, Sajid was arrested before under the alias of Mohammed Asghar and there were six cases registered against him between 2015 and 2021 at different police stations.

He said that both of them were booked in cases pertaining to encounter with police, motorcycle lifting and robberies.

Earlier on Tuesday, the police claimed to have killed three suspected robbers in two encounters.

On the same day, a policeman was killed in another encounter within the remit of the SITE-Superhighway police station. His funeral prayers were offered on Wednesday.
