Tribesmen threaten protest for jobs in power projects

LAKKI MARWAT: The elders of Momandkhel have threatened to launch a protest to get jobs for members of their tribe in Kurrum Garhi Powerhouse and Baran Dam.

The elders gathered near the irrigation department offices in Bannu on Thursday to record their grievances against the violation of jobs-related agreement and meet the relevant authorities in this connection.

Chief of Momandkhel Malik Meer Shamad Wazir, Amir Feroz and others said that the tribe had provided the government with 13,000 kanals of land free of cost for the water and power projects under an agreement and in return the government had offered 180 jobs to members of the tribe.

They alleged that irregularities were made in recruitments against the vacant posts during the tenure of the caretaker government in violation of the agreement. “Under the agreement if an employee retires from service, the vacancy will be filled by the member of his family or clan,” they claimed.

They said that instead of accommodating tribesmen on vacant posts, authorities appointed non-locals.

They asked authorities to take notice of the issue and direct quarters concerned to address their grievances. Later, the elders also met local officials of the irrigation department and apprised them of their demands.
