The noble role of our armed forces

SEPT 6 is a day of great significance for Pakistan. It is observed every year as the Defence Day to commemorate a crucial moment in the country’s history, reflecting on the bravery and sacrifices of its armed forces during the 1965 war with India. Celebrated with both reverence and pride, the day honours past achieve- ments while reinforcing national unity, resilience and the continued importance of military readiness.

The following day, Sept 7, is also a major occasion for Pakistan, observed annually as the Air Force Day to commemorate the achievements of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), reflecting on its contributions to national security and legacy of excellence.

The day after, Sept 8, also happens to be a significant date in Pakistan’s national calendar, observed as the Navy Day to honour the achievements of Pakistan Navy, highlighting its crucial role in safeguar-ding the country’s maritime interests and national security.

The Pakistan-India war of 1965 was a defining conflict in South Asia which was characterised by intense battles and significant sacrifices. As Pakistan reflects on its military history, the bravery and heroism of its martyrs from the army, navy and air force are notable. These individuals made supreme sacrifices during one of the most challenging periods the nation has ever faced.

The three-day commemorations of historical events serve as a potent and powerful reminder of the collective responsibilities and values that sustain national security and unity. These days highlight Pakistan’s resilience and military strength during the 1965 war, and their significance goes beyond mere historical reflection. They call for a unified response from the nation, emphasising the need for solidarity, awareness and active participation in maintaining national security. The days reinforce the nation’s commitment to its security and defence, rejecting anti-state elements and false propaganda, and demonstra-ting beyond doubt an unwavering support for the armed forces in addressing both internal and external threats.
