Man killed in capital over old enmity

ISLAMABAD: A man from Mandi Bahauddin was assassinated in the capital on Friday over an old enmity, police said.

The deceased was identified as Raja Qamar Ranjha, a resident of I-8 and a property dealer by profession.

The incident took place when he was going to a school to pick up his children, the police said, adding that he was ambushed by individuals in a car who attempted to intercept his vehicle.

When he tried to escape, the attackers rammed his car from behind and began firing at him. The victim sustained bullet wounds and lost control of the vehicle, which mounted the footpath and came to a halt.

Ranjha attempted to escape on foot and ran towards a nearby building to save his life, the police said, adding that the attackers pursued him and gunned him down inside the building. After confirming his death, the attackers fled the scene. The police reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for further legal procedures.

The family of the deceased was contacted, who believed that old enmity in his native town was the motive behind the murder. So far, no written complaint or statement has been given over the murder to the police, they said.
